Pickens County Sheriff: Husband, wife arrested on ‘similar’ sex with student charges

Pickens (WIAT)

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A husband and wife were arrested this week on “similar” charges of sex with a student, Pickens County Sheriff David Abston said.

32-year-old James Parker was arrested Wednesday and booked at 5:27 p.m. by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department, jail records say. Earlier this week, Pickens Academy teacher and girls basketball coach Charli Parker was arrested and charged with School Employee Engaging in a Sex Act With a Student Under the Age of 19 Years. According to the District Attorney Chris McCool, “The incidents are separate and unrelated in place and manner of commission. None of the criminal sexual activity occurred at the school.”

McCool says James Parker is a coach and teacher at Pickens Academy in Carrollton, Ala. According to McCool, the allegation involves a former female student.

District Attorney Chris McCool says the allegation against Charli Parker involves a male student and the sex acts didn’t occur at the school. Charli Parker’s arrest was the result of an investigation from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation is still ongoing.
