Accused pricey wine thief returns to CT to face charges

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) – Groton Police say a man who swiped a bottle of wine worth nearly $5,000 has been arrested in Rhode Island. Police say back in October, Scott DeLuca, 24, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, got into the wine storage area at the Octagon Restaurant inside the Mystic Marriott, and lifted a bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus wine valued at $4,800.

A police investigation turned up similar incidents in New York and New Jersey. Through surveillance photos, police came up with DeLuca as a suspect.  Groton police got a warrant for his arrest back in October.

On Thursday, DeLuca was arrested in Rhode Island on a list of charges, including being a fugitive from Connecticut. He waived extradition and was brought to Groton on Friday.  DeLuca is being held on $10,000 bond and still faces warrants from other Connecticut departments.
