Route 2 open after truck hits overpass

MARLBOROUGH, Conn. (WTNH)  –  A truck, traveling on Route 2 Westbound, that was taller than the height of a bridge overpass in Marlborough, struck the bridge resulting in the westbound side being closed for more than three hours this morning.

State Police say the truck, being driven by 48 year old David Smith of Colchester, was too tall and the open-box bed struck the Johnson Road bridge at 6:01 a.m.   Smith was not injured.

Bridge inspectors responded to evaluate the overpass and it was determined to have had minor damage.   The accident was cleared and the highway re-opened at 9:25 a.m.

Smith was issued an infraction for height of vehicle, excessive, without a permit.
