Sen. Blumenthal to introduce bill to prevent opioid addiction

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal will announce a bill aimed at preventing opioid addiction.

The announcement of the bipartisan Promoting Responsible Opioid Prescribing (PROP) Act will be made by Sen. Blumenthal at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Friday afternoon.

The PROP Act would eliminate the relationship between questions on patient satisfaction surveys regarding pain management and physician and hospital Medicare reimbursement.

Sen. Blumenthal said this would relieve doctors of “undue pressure” to prescribe opioid narcotics.

Sen. Blumenthal said the bipartisan legislation will “help stop legitimate prescriptions from turning into dangerous addictions.”
