BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Taylor Sapiente was arrested Saturday night on drug factory charges that Branford officers discovered while responding to Sapiente’s home following his report of a burglary.

Officer Mathew Clerkin of the Branford Police Department responded to 675 East Main Street to investigate his report of a burglary complaint called in by 33-year-old Mathew Clerkin. Upon entering Sapiente’s home, Officer Clerkin noticed an “overwhelming smell” of marijuana.

Officers detained Sapiente as they applied for a Search and Seizure Warrant, which led them to marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, hash oil, drug paraphernalia, a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, and $3,900 in cash.

Sapiente was charged with possession charges, in addition to operating a drug factory. He is held on a $50,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in New Haven on Monday.
