Chinese citizen pleads guilty to fake computer chip scheme

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say a Chinese citizen has pleaded guilty in Connecticut to trafficking in counterfeit computer chips.

The U.S. attorney says 40-year-old Daofu Zhang, of Shenzen, China, pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to sell counterfeits of sophisticated integrated circuits to a purchaser in the United States.

Prosecutors say Zhang and his co-conspirators came up with a scheme to steal Xilinx Corp. brand integrated circuits, or ICs, made for the U.S. military.

Zhang in November 2015 shipped a person in the U.S. eight counterfeit ICs to replace the stolen ICs. Zhang and his co-conspirators were arrested Dec. 10 in Milford, where they planned to take possession of the military ICs.

Zhang is scheduled to be sentenced July 8.

Thirty-three-year-old Jiang Yan and 38-year-old Xianfeng Zuo pleaded guilty in March. They await sentencing.
