WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to relocate a bear in West Hartford after it was found in a tree Sunday afternoon.

A DEEP spokesman says they received a call around 3:15 p.m. from a resident reporting a bear at 20 Lilley Road.

By the time Environmental Conservation Police arrived, the bear had come down from the tree and was found at 19 Vanderbilt Road.

DEEP officials say they tranquilized the 250-pound male bear and are relocating him to a suitably forested area.

The neighborhood where the bear was captured in West Hartford is a busy and congested area, according to DEEP.
