DEEP seeking public input on Barn Island

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)  –  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is looking for the public’s input as it prepares a plan to manage Barn Island, a 1,000 acre coastal wildlife management area in Stonington.

According to DEEP a management assessment report has been prepared by Connecticut College and they are now seeking input on that report to begin development of a comprehensive management plan.   That report was the first step for a plan after DEEP received a Long Island Sound futures fund grant.   The College was given the task of gathering historic, scientific, management and public use information and to make recommendations to DEEP on potential management options.

DEEP says Barn Island is the state’s largest, most diverse, and ecologically significant coastal wildlife management area.
