NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Yale has announced that Ambassador Samantha Power, the United States’ envoy to the United Nations, will be this year’s Class Day speaker.
Yale, unlike other schools, does not have a speaker during graduation exercises, instead inviting a guest to address the graduating class the day before commencement.
Power will give the traditional Class Day lecture on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the school’s Old Campus.
Power is a 1992 Yale graduate. She was appointed the U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations and a member of President Obama’s cabinet in 2013.
Yale also gives out several honorary degrees each year, but those are closely guarded secrets until commencement.
