BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Costco has withdrawn its Inland Wetlands Permit application to build a store in Branford.
According to the New Haven Register, The towns First Selectman says he’s still committed to bringing Costco to the town, but critics to the development project applaud the commission for protecting the environment.
Costco submitted plans to the town in 2015 to develop a 45-acre lot near I-95’s exit 56 into a retail center. The store has support from the First Selectman James Cosgrove and many residents, but also has it’s fair share of criticism.
Opponents of the development are wary of the traffic such a business would create, as well as the environmental impact it would have. Certain residents also state that ‘the store would not fit in with the image of and goals that were set forth for the town.
