Coventry woman arrested after stand-off with police

Coventry, Conn. (WTNH)- Coventry police have arrested a woman who they say barricaded herself inside of a camper after pointing a rifle at man. The incident happened on Lake Street shortly before three o’clock on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, they were called to the scene after 57 year old Debra Bernier pointed that weapon at a man. After securing the scene, police were unsuccessful in trying to talk with the suspect forcing the nearby G-B Robertson School to temporarily be put into a lock down.

An emergency response team was eventually able to talk Bernier out of the camper without incident. Bernier now faces several charges including a police officer, reckless endangerment in the second degree, threatening in the second degree and breach of peace in the second degree interfering with police.
