Trees being planted in Hartford for Arbor Day

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Friday, various organizations came together to plant trees at Bushnell Park for Arbor Day.

KNOX Inc., Bushnell Park Foundation, The Hartford, and the City of Hartford came together to plant 33 trees and 57 shrubs in Hartford’s Bushnell Park in recognition of Arbor Day. The new plantings will attract new birds and diverse wildlife to the park and is part of a city-wide urban reforestation initiative by KNOX and the city to plant 20,000 trees in 20 years in the city.

Before the planting began, there was a brief ceremony recognizing the work completed so far to restore Hartford’s tree canopy. Mayor Luke Bronin spoke briefly at the ceremony.

Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated holiday that encourages tree plantings and tree care in communities across the United States.
