Southbury woman killed in Route 6 crash

SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Troopers say a 69-year-old Southbury woman was killed after a dump truck collided with her car on Friday afternoon.

At 1:21 p.m. Southbury police and area troopers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a serious collision on Main Street North, or Route 6, between a dump truck and a Subaru Legacy.

First responders found the driver of the Subaru, 69-year-old Ruth Grant, of Old Highway Road in Southbury, unresponsive upon arrival. Lifesaving measures were attempted on-scene, but troopers say Grant was pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital.

While the case is still open, preliminary investigation revealed that Grant was driving west on Old Waterbury Road when she was struck on the driver’s side by a dump truck traveling north on Route 6. William Foley III, the Jamark Construction dump truck driver, was uninjured, troopers say.

The roadways in the area were closed for over three hours, monitored by Connecticut DOT and the Southbury Highway Department. The Connecticut State Police (CSP) CARS Unit as well as the CSP Truck Squad responded as well, in order to document and reconstruct the collision.
