Despite “Lil’ Ugly” not talking, New Haven police make shooting arrest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven Police have arrested a man who they call a gang member for a weekend shooting.  Rashiem Council, 26, was arrested Sunday morning.  On Saturday afternoon, police got a call to 282 Shelton Avenue about a shooting.  When they got there they found Darryl “Lil’ Ugly” McFadden sitting on some steps with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.  His injuries are not life threatening. “Lil’ Ugly” refused to talk to police.  A witness told police the shooting was the result of a fight at a basketball court.

Investigators dug for information and came up with the name “Sheem.”  Police know Rasheim Council as a gang member with a long criminal history involving guns and robbery.  Police found Council late Sunday morning. He was picked up outstanding warrants.  Police say he confessed to shooting McFadden.  He took police to the spot where he says he stashed the gun but it wasn’t there.  Council is charged with first degree assault, reckless endangerment, and weapons charges.
