News 8 donates books

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Some kids in West Haven now have more books to choose from.

News 8, ABC, and Disney teamed up with the non-profit First Book to donate 500 books to the United Way Early Head Start Program.

Good Morning Connecticut Co-Anchor Laura Hutchinson helped deliver some of the books today to the West Haven Child Development Center. United Way hopes the donation gets more kids excited about reading and increases their developing vocabulary.

“To read a book to a child does wonderful things. A child feels loved when they crawl into your lap and hear you read a book, they get to hear all sorts of new vocabulary which builds their language skills when they do become readers,” said Jennifer Heath, Incoming CEO & President of United Way of Greater New Haven.

The kids were excited to see the new books they got and have Laura read one of them.
