23-year-old in critical condition after Barkhamsted hit-and-run

BARKHAMSTED, Conn. (WTNH) — Police are looking for a driver who they say left the scene after hitting a motor scooter in Barkhamsted Friday night.

Connecticut State Police Troopers were called to New Hartford Road in Barkhamsted around 9 p.m. Friday for a motor vehicle accident in front of the Log House Restaurant. When they arrived, troopers found 23-year-old Zachary Dube of New Hartford seriously injured. Dube was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital before being transferred to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar. Troopers say Dube remains in critical condition.

Troopers say the evading vehicle, which they say is possible a 2012-2015 gray Toyota Tacoma with front end, front bumper, and/or passenger side damage, is believed to have been traveling eastbound on Route 44, trying to make a left into the Log House Restaurant. Dube, who was driving a motor scooter-type bike, was traveling westbound on Route 44. The two vehicles then collided in the westbound lane of Route 44.

The accident remains under investigation as Troopers are still looking for the evading driver.

Troopers are asking anyone who has, or may have, information to contact them at (860)626-1840 or text TIP711 with the info to 236748. All calls will be kept confidential.
