DANIELSON, Conn. (WTNH) – Police say 23 year old Tyler Ayotte-Pierce was sleeping as his 2 year old nephew was walking around a Danielson neighborhood wearing only a soiled diaper in the misting rain.
State Police got a call shortly after 10 am on May 24th from a postal worker saying they spotted a toddler walking by himself in the area of College Street and St. James Row. The postal worker told officers no adult was present and the child appeared cold in the misting rain. Troopers say they responded quickly and found the 2 year old with the postal worker and an adult woman who were comforting the wet and shivering child with a blanket. After about twenty minutes, police say Ayotte-Pierce came running down the street saying he was the Uncle of the 2 year old and fell asleep while he was babysitting. He told police he had no idea the boy had gotten out of the home.
Police arrested Ayotte-Pierce charging him with risk of injury to a child. The Department of Children and Families services responded to the scene to launch a separate investigation. Ayotte-Pierce is being held on a $5,000 bond.
