Family of alleged assault victim files intent to sue

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A New Haven teacher charged with sexually assaulting one of her students is now facing a lawsuit from the family of the alleged victim.

Engineering & Science University Magnet School math teacher Kirvanna Jones is named as a defendant in the two-page notice of intent to file claim for damages filed by an attorney for the family this month. The school’s superintendent and principal are also named as defendants.

Jones was arrested and charged with second-degree sexual assault on Feb. 10.

The New Haven Register reports that the notice claims the alleged victim suffered extreme pain and suffering; sever emotional distress; body intrusion; and “destruction of ability to enjoy life’s activities.”

City attorneys had no comment.

Jones’ attorney did not return messages.
