Firefighters on scene of vacant plant fire in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Firefighters were called to a vacant powder coating and paint plant for a fire around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

News 8 has learned the fire started as a result of cutting torches.

The fire had been smoldering throughout the night until someone noticed it Wednesday morning.

DEEP officials are on their way to the scene as a precaution. There are no immediate health hazards.

New Haven Police are investigating it as a suspicious fire, according to standard procedure, but they do not believe it was intentional.

The fire caused road closures on State Street on Wednesday morning.
