MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – A Middletown man was arrested for shoplifting on Tuesday morning at a local Stop and Shop.
At 8:00 am on May 24th, a Middletown officer was dispatched to the Stop and Shop at 416 East Main Street responding to a report of a shoplifter in custody.
According to a loss prevention officer at the store, who wished to remain nameless, the accused is Ryan Alford, 48 of Middletown, who had been warned in January that he was not allowed on store property anymore or he would be arrested after similar incidents.
Over the past few days, Alford had entered the store around the same time every morning and stolen from the shelves, culminating in that morning when the loss prevention officer says he saw Alford remove seven packages of “Dove” brand soap from store shelves, conceal them in a reusable shopping bag and walk out of the store without paying.
Alford was then stopped by the officer and escorted him back inside to the security office where he called the police. Alford was transported to Middletown Police Headquarters where we was charged with 2nd degree criminal trespassing and 6th degree larceny.
No information was given on Alford’s bond or court date.
