WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An early morning accident on I-95 in West Haven is continuing to cause backups into Milford during Thursday’s commute.

Troopers were dispatched to the on- and off-ramp to exit 43 on the northbound side of I-95, on a report of a tractor trailer versus tractor trailer accident. Dispatchers for Troop G say one of the truck operators was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for minor injuries.

Troopers kept the left and center lanes closed as they worked to clear the scene through the morning. Crews from the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) arrived just after 7 a.m. to clean up a small gas tank leak.

Dispatchers tell News 8 that they expect the lane closures to continue until around 9 a.m., but delays are already stretching back about 5.75 miles, as far as exit 39 in Milford.
