HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford police say they have arrested a man who was riding around on a bicycle with a shotgun in his backpack.

According to Hartford Deputy Chief Brian J. Foley, 32-year-old Angel Rodriguez of Hartford was arrested on Friday night.

Police say they were called to Franklin Avenue and Bond Street Friday night after a citizen heard two people talking about going to “get rifles.” Responding officers saw a suspect riding away from the area on a bike with no headlight. Police say the suspect also had a rifle case sticking out of his backpack.

The suspect refused to stop, but was eventually stopped and arrested in a parking lot. Police say they found a Remington 870 Express pump action 20 gauge shotgun in the rifle case.

Police say Rodriguez is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess firearms. He is charged with interfering with police, criminal possession of a firearm, and operating a bicycle without a headlight.
