Wallingford, Conn. (WTNH) – Police in Wallingford were conducting seat belt enforcement on Sunday, as part of the Department’s Click it or Ticket Campaign. At around 10:30 p.m. on on North Colony Road Officer Eric Judkins says he saw a Toyota Camry pass him, with the driver not wearing a seat belt.
When Officer Judkins pulled over the car he says there was a smell of marijuana from the car. When he asked the driver his name, he says 26-year-old Aaron Rivera lied initially, and gave him a false name. Officer Judkins then conducted a search of the car and found 1.365 ounces of cocaine stored in an unmarked prescription pill bottle and $1735.00 in cash. Rivera and his passenger, 25-year-old Asia Gonzalez of Meriden, both denied ownership of the cocaine. Both individuals were placed under arrest and now face several charges.
Aaron Rivera was charged with: Seatbelt violation, operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, Interfering with an officer, possession of a narcotic substance with the intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance, and drug paraphernalia.
Rivera is currently being held on a $7500.00 Surety Bond and was given a court date of 06-13-2016 in Meriden Superior Court.
Asia Gonzalez was charged with: Possession of a narcotic substance with the intent to sell, possession of narcotic substance, and drug paraphernalia.
Gonzalez was released on a 5,000.00 non-surety bond and issued a court date of 06-13-2016 in Meriden Superior Court.
