PD: Husband arrested in death of pregnant Norwich woman

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have arrested the husband of the pregnant woman found in a burning Norwich home on Thursday.

2016-06-02 Margarette MadyFire crews responded to the fire on Franklin Street just before 11 a.m. where they found Margarette Mady unresponsive, severely burned, and with multiple stab wounds.

Police say 39-year-old Patrick Antoine turned himself in, saying he had killed his wife in their home and set the apartment on fire. Antoine is charged with murder and first-degree arson.

It took fire crews about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. It started and was mostly contained to a second floor bedroom which was fully involved. A woman was found inside the now gutted room.

“Unfortunately that person was gravely injured at that time,” says Norwich Fire Chief Kenneth Scandariato.

The victim, who was pregnant died despite efforts to save her. Judith Alcide a friend and co-worker was told of her death by their boss.

“I think Margarette has passed away,” says Alcide. “I said no no no. He said… ” Alcide then nodded her head.

The victim was identified by family and friends as Margarette Mady, a mother of two who was expecting her third child.

“She’s nine months pregnant she was so happy to have a baby next month coming,” says Alcide.

Antoine is being held on $1 million bond and is set to be arraigned in court on Friday.
