NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police have arrested a man who they say tried to kill a man Sunday night, but instead shot a bullet through a window of a restaurant. Just before 8:30 Sunday night, police got a call about gunfire nearly Farren Avenue in New Haven. They found a bullet had gone through the window of the El Fogon Restaurant, and wound up lodged in the ceiling. No one in the restaurant was hurt. Outside, police found 26 year old Jerry Martinez with his wife and two young children. He told police that a black Oldsmobile pulled up and a former friend, Efrain Rolon-Dones asked him to come over to the car. Martinez says he thought Rolon-Dones was holding a cell phone. It turned out to be a gun. Martinez says Rolon-Dones fired but missed and hit the restaurant. Martinez told police Rolon-Dones has stolen a thousand dollars from him and he had reported him to police. Police say they found Rolon-Dones’s car in his girlfriend’s mother’s driveway. Rolon-Dones was arrested and is facing a list of charges including Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree.
