WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It was a celebration of surviving at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven Friday.
The 11th annual Cancer Survivor Day brought together patients and staff to talk about what it’s like to go through cancer treatment. This year’s theme was the Wizard of Oz, and the yellow brick road to recovery.
The staff dressed up in costume because, unlike a lot of days in the cancer ward, this day was focused on good news. “We want to celebrate with them their life, their continued life, we want to celebrate with their caregivers who are in the battle with them,” said Dr. Michal Rose with the VA Cancer Center.
For years, our own Dr. Mel Goldstein was the featured speaker. After Dr. Mel lost his battle with cancer, News 8’s Kent Pierce stepped in to talk about his own cancer battle.
