GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A warning for pet owners along the Shoreline to keep an extra careful watch on your pets while they’re outside.
The Guilford Police Animal Shelter says there have been a number of fisher cat sightings as of late. Fisher cats are part of the weasel family, often weighing up to 15 pounds, and have a very unique call. The animals are primarily nocturnal, but can come out during the day. While Fisher cats do eat plants and other wildlife, it isn’t uncommon for them to eat small cats or dogs.
Officials at the Guilford Animal Shelter encourage pet owners to keep pets inside and avoid letting them outside by themselves. When dogs go out for their walks, keep a close eye on them.
