Hartford Police make arrest, seize hundreds of bags of heroin

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford Police say they have arrested a heroin dealer on Wednesday following an investigation that began in the month of May.

Detectives from the Vice and Narcotics Unit conducted an investigation into Juan Rivera, known to reside at 145 Barker Street, Apt # C8. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for him and a search warrant for the apartment. On Wednesday, the detectives conducted a narcotics operation prior to executing the warrants. During the operation, investigators obtained information that Rivera was at a hotel in East Hartford packaging large amounts of heroin. Surveillance was established and Rivera was observed exiting a hotel room and entering his vehicle, according to police.

Rivera was stopped and where detectives found 470 bags of heroin. The search warrant was executed at 145 Barker Street where 81 bags of heroin and packaging material were recovered. Rivera gave consent for detectives to search the East Hartford hotel room. Detectives from East Hartford PD and agents from FBI task force conducted a search of the hotel room and located 52 grams of raw heroin and packaging material. Rivera was placed under arrest for the outstanding arrest warrant and various narcotic related charges.

Rivera faces charges of possession of narcotics, improper use of registration, and possession with intent to sell narcotics.

An arrest warrant will be applied for Rivera by Detectives in East Hartford.
