Dragon Boat Regatta held in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Rowers competed in a unique race on the water in New Haven on Saturday. The first ever Dragon Boat Regatta was held at the Long Wharf Waterfront.

Ten teams of 18 to 24 people went head to head, competing to be the fastest in New Haven. They raced in 41-foot Dragon Boats.

“We hired a company from Canada called 22Dragons,” said John Pescatore, President of Canal Dock Boathouse, Inc. “They bring the boats, they bring the professional steers people, the knowhow. They set up the racecourse. They bring the dragonheads and the decorations for the boats, so they bring everything.”

There were more than a dozen races held throughout the day. Each team got to race three times.
