New Haven police nab accused biking purse snatcher

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven Police have arrested a man who they say grabbed a woman’s purse while biking by.  Around 4:30 Saturday afternoon, a woman flagged down a police officer on Spring Street.  She told the officer an older Hispanic man had just driven past her on a bike, and grabbed her Coach purse.  She said she chased after him but he got away.  Police spotted the suspect a few minutes later on Howard Avenue.  Police say when they spotted Confesor Cotto, 56, of New Haven he ditched the bike and tried to run into a corner store.  An officer grabbed him before he got inside.  The woman identified Cotto as the purse snatcher. He is charged with robbery.
