Ex-Danbury teacher’s sex assault trial starting this month

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — The trial for a former Danbury High School science teacher accused of having a relationship with a 17-year-old student is scheduled to start this month.

The News-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1Ywk4st ) that 25-year-old Kayla Mooney‘s trial is scheduled to start June 28.

Mooney was charged in March 2015 with second-degree sexual assault and providing alcohol to a minor after an investigation into a complaint she made to school officials that she was being harassed by the boy’s girlfriend.

Police say the boy involved told them about the sexual relationship and they confirmed parts of his story after obtaining emails between him and Mooney. Mooney was fired in April for failing to maintain her certification.

Mooney has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
