NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s the 21st annual International Festival of Arts and Ideas on the New Haven Green. One of the best events during the 15 day festival…pizza fest!
Chris Randall, a New Haven resident was first in the line to get some pizza, “I’m eating pizza, I’ve got two slices of Pepes, I’m going to chow down!”
Chowing down is appropriate because there is, a lot of pizza there.
‘We get cheese pizza, we already have some in there where it’s white pizza with vegetables, pepperoni, bacon, sausage, all different kinds.’ said Rachel Doody, the Program Director of The Connection (a non-profit organisation).
And the places the pies come from are no joke! Abbate, Da Legna, Modern, P & M, Pepes, so a lot of the big pizza places in New Haven will be here.
This is a small sample of the 18 different pizzerias in the New Haven area that have taken part in donating over 500 pies to feed the hungry lunch crowd during 4 days this month.
The cost for the pizza, $3 a slice, $2 for Italian ice, and a drink will cost you a buck. The best part is that it all goes to a great cause!
Beth Connor, Director of Communications and Fund Development, The Connection, “So the proceeds from pizza fest will go to The Connection. We serve about 6000 people per month in a variety of ways. We help folks that are homeless, people with mental health issues, addictions issues, folks coming out of prison. We reunify families, we do a lot of great work in the state.”
The bad news is that you’ve already missed the first two days of pizza fest. The good news is you can still come to the New Haven Green from noon to 1:30 next Thursday and Friday to get a slice of pie for a good cause!
