Squirrels causing widespread power outages

Conn. (WTNH) — Eversource is experiencing power outages scattered throughout the state due to squirrels climbing onto the lines.

Eversource Spokesman Tom Dorsey says “everything’s squirrel-related today” because normally on a beautiful day like today, there wouldn’t be any outages.

Eversource is experiencing about 1,500 outages. Dorsey says there have been some car versus pole accidents, but an exceptional number of the outages are due to the squirrels, which he says are a big problem for them.

Redding was the most concentrated area, where about 75 customers were without power. Those outages have since been restored.
