Body of missing boater pulled from Chester lake

CHESTER, Conn.  (WTNH)  –  The body of a man missing since the canoe he and a woman were in capsized on Cedar Lake in Chester Saturday night has been found.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection the body of 48 year old Paul Haney of Manchester was pulled from the lake around 11:15 a.m.   The state medical examiner pronounced him dead at the scene.

49 year old Carol Bremser from Chester was rescued by a good Samaritan vessel and she was treated at an area medical clinic.

DEEP says Haney and  Bremser  went out on the Lake around 6:45 p.m. in  a canoe and the canoe overturned just before 8 p.m.   DEEP EnCon Police, State Police and a State Police sonar boat, along with several local dive teams searched the lake last night and again this morning before finding Haney’s body.

The Chester town beach and the YMCA’s Camp Hazen beach that were closed during the search have reopened.
