Police officer shot in New Milford

NEW MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Police are investigating after a police officer was shot at a condo complex in New Milford Sunday afternoon.

Police say that the unidentified officer was shot at 30 Candlewood Lake but was not seriously hurt and has been treated and released from the hospital.

Officials say no shots were fired by New Milford police officers.

The State Police Major Crime Squad and a bomb squad also responded to the scene and the condo complex was evacuated by police for the safety of the other residents. However, the bomb squad cleared the residence and there were no explosives located.

Police are still investigating what led to the stand-off and why the suspect fired his weapon. Police say there is no danger to the public and the suspect is in custody.
