VERNON, Conn. (AP) — Two Connecticut teenagers are facing charges after they allegedly stole a car, took it on a joy ride and crashed it.
Vernon Police say the two unnamed 17-year-old boys apparently stole the car in Manchester sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and took turns driving it throughout the night.
The joy ride ended when the car hit a guardrail in Vernon. Police were called to the scene at about 1 a.m. They say no one was injured, including the two teenage girls also in the car.
The two boys were issued juvenile summons; the girls weren’t charged.
Police warned residents not to leave keys in their vehicles. They’re investigating several overnight car burglaries and thefts this month, almost all involving unlocked vehicles with keys left inside.
