The Mary A Schmecker (MAS) Turtle Shell Fund was founded in 2010 by Michele and Fred Bialek and their brother Joe Manganello in their grandmother’s name to promote art, music and theater education to our local youth and community. Mrs. Schmecker was a ceramics instructor with the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys and Girls’ club in Shelton for 35 years and was one of the first class of inductees into their Hall of Fame in 2007, shortly before her passing in 2008. Her grandchildren wanted to continue her legacy of encouraging kids and adults to utilize their creative skills and created Soupstock to help fund their goals. Since then, The MAS Turtle Shell Fund has given tens of thousands of dollars to local schools and community organizations to pay for art supplies, creative programs and scholarships.
