State Police investigating pedestrian strike in Old Lyme

OLD LYME, Conn. (WTNH) — One man has been hurt after being struck by a pickup truck on the Boston Post Road in Old Lyme early Friday morning.

Just after 1:30 a.m., Connecticut State Police responded to the 200 block of Boston Post Road on a report that a man had been struck by a vehicle. From their initial investigation, troopers believe 52-year-old Eric Powers, of Old Lyme, walked into the southbound lane of travel.

Powers was struck by a pickup truck, being driven by 29-year-old Micheil Smith, of Lyme. State Police say Powers was taken by emergency medical helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His official condition has not been released. Smith was not injured.

State Police are continuing their investigation to detemine why Powers may have walked into the road. If you witnessed this accident, or have any information that could help troopers in their investigation, you’re asked to call State Police Troop F at 860-399-2100.
