EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One person has died after a 6-vehicle crash on I-95 on Saturday morning.
Connecticut State Police says the accident happened around 11:15 a.m. on I-95 in East Haven. There were 6-vehicles involved in the crash, including at least one tractor-trailer.
Troopers say all six vehicles were traveling in the center lane on I-95 just south of the Exit 51 ramp in East Haven. Vehicles 1-5 all slowed down for heavy traffic ahead, but as vehicle six, a tractor-trailer, approached, it struck vehicle five, causing a chain-reaction accident. Troopers say vehicle five was pushed into the cement jersey barrier in the right shoulder. The center, rear-seat passenger, 68-year-old Adriana Catana of Trumbull died as a result of the crash.
Troopers say at least two people had to be extricated from their vehicles and several people were taken to hospitals for minor injuries.
All lanes of the highway have reopened, but Troopers tell drivers to expect delays.
