NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) — Norwalk police are investigating after a woman was allegedly assaulted while jogging on a path on Friday morning.

According to police, a woman was jogging on a wooded path near the Rowayton Woods Condominiums on Highland Avenue when she says a man jumped out from behind a tree. The woman said the man held her down, fondled her and scratched her with a compact mirror he was carrying. The woman told police she fought the man off and ran to a friend’s nearby condo unit.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, approximately 6’0″ tall, heavy build with short gray, spiky hair and red nose. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt, denim cut-off shorts and white orthopedic-type sneakers

Police say that upon looking into evidence, they have questions regarding the circumstances provided by the victim.

On Saturday afternoon, Norwalk police say they were unable to find the reported suspect. Police determined the complainant had fabricated the story. Police say there is, and never was, any threat or danger to the community.
