NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– From splash pad shenanigans to volleyball with the family, you could find it all at Lighthouse Point park on Monday. In order to partake in the fun, folks had to get down to the beach before the sun came up.
Cars lined up well before the gates opened. Some arrived as early as 4 a.m.
“[We came] to have a good time with the family and celebrate fourth of July,” said New Britain’s Yolanda Fontanez.
Meriden’s Julio Santan said, “You gotta go somewhere on a day like this.”
“Fourth of July is crazy. We get people from Mass Rhode Island, Coming here to New haven Connecticut,” said New Haven’s Justin Taylor, who works at the park.
Taylor says lines of cars waited to get in before the sun came up and by 10 in the morning they’ve been known to hit capacity.
“We work here. It’s not work though, it’s all fun,” he said.
Lifeguards will be on duty until about 6 tonight.
