Berlin crews investigating following basement fire

BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) — The town’s fire marshal is investigating after the basement of a home on Casner Drive in Berlin caught fire early Monday morning.

Berlin firefighters were dispatched to 80 Casner Drive at 3:10 a.m. on Monday morning. Police were on scene, and noted to dispatchers that all of those inside had been safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.

When firefighters arrived, they noted that the two-story wood frame home was filling with smoke from a fire in the basement.

It is unclear whether the fire spread beyond the basement or if anyone had to be displaced for the night, but dispatchers say the flames were knocked down quickly, and crews have fully ventilated the home. A fire marshal is investigating.

Meriden firefighters were called in for mutual aid.
