2 arrested for stealing AR-15 rifle out of state police cruiser

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing an AR-15 rifle after breaking into a state police cruiser that was parked in Milford back in March.

Police say on March 8th, around 4:48 a.m., a Connecticut state trooper reported that his state police cruiser, his personal vehicle and another state trooper’s assigned state police car were all broken into overnight while they were parked in the driveway of his Milford home. When Milford police responded, it was learned that several vehicles in that neighborhood were also broken into that night.

Police say amongst other items stolen, a Connecticut state police department issued AR-15 rifle with two fully load 30 round magazine and a bullet proof vest were taken from the police cruiser. After an extensive investigation by Milford and state police, along with New Haven police, ATF and the FBI, the AR-15 rifle was recovered, with the two 30 round magazines and the bullet proof vest. Police then secured seven firearms and larceny arrest warrants for four separate people.

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 20-year-old Travis Ingram was arrested in North Haven in connection with the theft. Police also arrested 18-year-old Leandre Crockett of Hamden. Police say Crockett was already in custody of the Department of Corrections for an unrelated criminal case.

Both men are charged with  Larceny, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny, Stealing a Firearm, Conspiracy to Steal a Firearm, Possession of Assault Weapon, Conspiracy to Possess an Assault Weapon, Transportation & Transfer of Assault Weapon, Conspiracy to Transport & Transfer an Assault Weapon, Large Capacity Magazines: Sale, Transfer or Possession, Conspiracy to Sell, Transfer or Possess Large Capacity Magazines.

Ingram is also charged with Criminal Possession of Body Armor and Criminal Possession of Firearm, Ammunition, Electronic Def Weapon. Crockett is also charged with Firearms Trafficking and Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms. Both men are being held on two separate warrants each with a total bond of $350,000. They are scheduled to appear in both New Haven and Milford courts.

Police say there are three pending arrests within the next week for two other people involved in this incident, who are all currently incarcerated.
