NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH)-– Every month Premier Subaru shares the love by making a donation to local organizations and charities. This month Premier Subaru shared the love with Camp Rising Sun, a summer camp for children diagnosed with cancer.
Founded in 1983, Camp Rising Sun accepts children between the ages of 5-17 years old who has /have faced the diagnosis of cancer. There is no cost to any children as cancer is already a financial burden on families. Camp Rising Sun is funded through many donors large and small. At Camp Rising Sun children who have faced the diagnoses of cancer get fond memories and an everlasting memory and a huge circle of friends for support.
Melissa Pandolfi was a former camper in 1998. Shaun’s first year as a counselor at Camp Rising Sun was Melissa’s first year as a camper. Now they volunteer and work together for camp. “Our mission is to provide a safe, fun week of a camp that these kids forget about their diagnosis, about their treatment, about their transfusions, and just to be a normal kid,” said Pandolfi.
Camp Rising Sun, will host their 15th Annual Night Out on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. at the Owenego Inn and Beach Club, 40 Linden Ave, Branford. The Annual Night Out is the camp’s largest fundraising event of the year.
This year, Premier Subaru donated $50,000. Together with the donation made in 2014, Premier Subaru has donated more than $83,239 to Camp Rising Sun over the last two years.
