EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– I-95 northbound is closed in East Haven due to a rollover Saturday afternoon. Both sides of the highway are affected.
The Department of Transportation reports that I-95 northbound is congested between exits 48 and 53 due to a two vehicle accident that closed the highway between exits 51 and 53, just after 3:30 p.m.
State police tells News 8 that the crash resulted in a rollover with an ejection near exit 51. Both sides of the highway are affected by the crash. Police say extrication was needed and at least one person is believed to be seriously injured.
The highway is closed but police say vehicles were getting by on the grass and that traffic was diverted off of exit 51.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. This is the second car accident in the area in just a few hours.
Drivers should expect traffic in the area and are urged to seek an alternate route.
