Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Colliding With Car

VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) – Police are investigating an accident that left a bicyclist with serious injuries Thursday morning.

The accident happened on East Main Street and Park Street. According to the Vernon Police Department’s tweet, a car and bicyclist collided leaving the cyclist with serious injuries to the lower extremities. The injured cyclist, identified as 27-year-old Heather Gabbey of Manchester, was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.

The accident shut down the roads for at least an hour, as a reconstruction team investigated.

The Vernon Police Department tweeted out to expect delays. They also tweeted out to drivers that if anyone was trying to get to Town Hall or Superior Court to take an alternate route of Prospect Street to Park or Elm Streets in order to avoid the road closure.

There is no word yet on the condition of the driver.
