NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One New Haven man died Saturday after being shot around 1:30 am.

Police said 22-year-old Daryl Wayne Belton of Garden Street was rushed by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital after he was found lying in the street and was pronounced dead within the hour.

Belton was shot once in the back, said police.

Police were dispatched to Kensington Street after ShotSpotter reported a single gunshot. Witnesses confirmed the ShotSpotter report and that the victim was with others when he was shot.

No other witnesses that were with Belton have come forward to speak with investigators according to police. None of the witnesses remained on the scene.

Police told News 8 there are no available witness reports of who shot the victim, any description of the shooter or any involved persons or vehicles.

Police are asking for help and anyone who witnessed the crime or may have information are urged to phone detectives at 203-946-6304.
