Firefighters injured in New Milford brush fire

NEW MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during a brush fire in New Milford Friday night.

The fire broke out at Lovers Leap Park around 11 p.m. on Friday while a dozen local fire departments responded.

Two firefighters were injured before the fire finally cleared Saturday afternoon. One suffered heat exhaustion and the other suffered smoke inhalation and a sprained ankle.

According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, who closed the park, fire danger was high at that time. There should not have been any burning within 100 feet of a wooded or grassy area.

Although neighbors reported the sound of fireworks around the time the fire started, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
