Police officers answer questions from children

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police officers are trying to ease tensions with the community after recent police shootings. They were meeting with members of the Boys & Girls Club answering their questions.

The students got the chance to start a conversation about what they have been seeing and hearing on TV and social media across the country.

“I think there’s a real sense that this can happen anywhere and that it is a conversation that needs to be had with young people,” said Stephanie Barnes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club.

Organizers of the event say they hope the children remember this experience and will then be better able to connect with police officers in their neighborhoods.
