EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man has been arrested after police say they found pills and empty methadone bottles in his car.

Police say 53-year-old John Ardito was parked in the Dollar Tree parking lot on Frontage Road Wednesday morning and acting suspicious. They say an officer approached the car and found a book in Ardito’s lap with several pills scattered on it.

Officials say Ardito told the officer he was trying to look up dosages for anxiety medications. However, they say he didn’t have a prescription or bottles for the pills. They say more pills and empty methadone bottles prescribed to another person were found when Ardito got out of his car.

Ardito is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance. He’s scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
